Specification

Mahindra offers its XUV 3XO with two 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine options and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Whereas Sonet is offered with 1-litre turbo-petrol, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel engine options.

For this comparison, we have chosen the 130 PS 1.2-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol unit of the XUV 3XO and the 1-litre turbo-petrol engine available with the Sonet, which are equipped with automatic transmission options. The XUV's T-GDI petrol engine produces 10 PS and 58 Nm more output than the Sonet's powertrain, a difference which is also reflected in its performance figures.

Performance comparison

The higher power output and torque translate into better acceleration and quarter-mile performance for the Mahindra SUV, which completes the quarter-mile almost a second faster than the Kia Sonet.

In terms of braking performance too, the XUV 3XO stops slightly better than the Sonet, achieving a stopping distance of 41.03 meters compared to the Sonet's 41.72 meters.

Price comparison 

In terms of price, the starting ex-showroom price of the XUV 3XO is Rs 7.49 lakh, while the starting ex-showroom price of its 130 PS turbo-petrol variant is Rs 12 lakh. On the other hand, the ex-showroom price of Sonet ranges between Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 15.69 lakh, while the ex-showroom price of its turbo-petrol variant starts from Rs 10.56 lakh.
