How does the train brake when the chain is pulled? You will be surprised to know the system

Indian Railways Rules:  The chain pulling system installed in the train coaches is very effective in emergency situations and is installed from the point of view of safety of passengers.

Chain Pulling Rules in Train:  Indian Railways provides an emergency braking system in train coaches whose purpose is to stop the train in an emergency. This system is activated by pulling a chain after which the brakes are applied in the train and it stops. The purpose of the chain pulling system is to stop the train suddenly, which can be useful in an emergency situation. When the chain of the train is pulled by a passenger, this system works with some special technology:

Working method of chain pulling system:

Process of chain pulling: Pulling the chain fitted in the train coaches activates a lever, which affects the braking system of the train. This lever is connected to the brake pipe of the coach.

Pressure drop in brake pipe: Pulling the chain reduces the air pressure in the brake pipe. It is very important to maintain air pressure in the train's braking system. As soon as the pressure drops, it sends a signal to the train's braking system that brakes should be applied in an emergency situation.

Activation of air brakes: Due to the loss of pressure, the air brake system of the train immediately gets activated and the wheels of the train start braking, due to which the train slows down and gradually comes to a halt.

Alert to the engine driver: Chain pulling also sends a signal to the driver, which lets him know that someone has pulled the chain in the train. In this situation, the driver has to carefully control the train.

Things to note

Passengers can be fined or legally prosecuted for unnecessarily and funly pulling the chain while sitting inside the train. It is advisable to use the chain only in emergency situations.

The purpose of this technology is to ensure the safety of passengers in case of emergency and to help in stopping the train immediately.
