His visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to excellence transformed India's business landscape. He also set high standards for innovation and growth. He was always full of ideas. He always discussed how we can make our country better. Shashi ji's demise is very sad. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones in this time of grief.

"It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Ruia and Essar family patriarch Shashikant Ruia. He was 81. With his unwavering commitment to community upliftment and philanthropy, he left a lasting impact on the lives of millions. His humility, warmth and ability to connect with everyone made him a truly exceptional leader.

We respect their vision and will continue to live by the values they have set in us. He had returned from the US about a month ago, where he was undergoing treatment. His body will be kept at Ruia House from 1 pm to 3 pm on Tuesday. The funeral procession will leave Ruia House at 4 pm towards the Hindu Worli crematorium in Mumbai.

Enterprising industrialist Shashikant Ruia started his career in 1965 under the guidance of his father Nand Kishore Ruia. He, along with his brother Ravi, founded Essar in 1969. He is survived by his wife Manju and two sons Prashant and Anshuman.
