Massive fire in NICU ward of Jhansi Medical College, 10 newborn babies died, 16 severely burnt. Chaos in the hospital after the accident, family members inconsolable.

Jhansi. A fire broke out in Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh on Friday. The fire broke out in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) of the hospital. Newborn babies are admitted here for treatment. At the time of the fire, 54 babies were admitted in the ward.

The fire spread so fast that 10 children were burnt alive. 16 children were severely burnt. There was chaos after the accident. The bodies of the dead newborn children had turned black due to burning. Some videos of the incident have been shared on social media. In one video, two people are seen running with the bodies of children. It is so horrific that the heart of the onlookers trembles.

Eyewitness account of the accident- woman said 15 children were rescued burnt

There was chaos in the hospital after the accident. The relatives of the dead children started crying. A woman told that her child had died. A woman named Sanjana told that I was with the patient. A fire broke out in the children's ward. I saw that 15 children were taken out burnt. The child for whose treatment I had come here is not found.

Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak said- we will provide financial help to the victims

On the fire in Jhansi Medical College, UP Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak said, "The fire safety audit of this hospital was done in February. A mock drill was also conducted in June. Only after the investigation report comes, something can be said about how and why the accident happened. There are 16 children in the hospital right now. 4 children have been sent to a private hospital. 10 children have died. Out of them, the bodies of 7 newborn babies have been identified. 3 bodies have not been identified yet. Efforts are being made to identify them by contacting their families. Six family members are not being contacted. Their mobile phones are switched off. We are contacting them at their home addresses. The victims will be given full financial help. The government is with them. We are with the victims in every situation."
