For me, not the government, but the Kashmir issue… Engineer Rashid said after being released from jail.

Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid was released from Tihar Jail on Wednesday. After his release from Tihar Jail, Engineer Rashid said that for me the issue is Kashmir, not the government. Let us tell you that a day earlier, a Delhi court issued an order for the release of Sheikh Abdul Rashid (Engineer Rashid) in the terror funding case after granting him interim bail till October 2.

After his release, Rashid said that I would not disappoint my people. I swear that I will fight against PM Modi's narrative of 'Naya Kashmir', which has completely failed in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that whatever he did on 5 August 2019, people have rejected it. I am committed to working for the welfare of my people. We are not going to be afraid.

My fight is not for the chair but for Kashmir.

He said that my fight is bigger than what Omar Abdullah says. His fight is for the chair, my fight is for the people. I am a victim of the BJP, I will fight against PM Modi's ideology till my last breath... I am coming to Kashmir to unite my people, not to divide them..."

Let us tell you that assembly elections are being held in Jammu and Kashmir and the release of Engineer Rashid from jail before the assembly elections is considered important. Engineer Rashid won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat. He defeated National Conference candidate and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah.

Rashid was lodged in Tihar in a terror funding case.

Rashid was lodged in Tihar Jail in the national capital in judicial custody in the 2017 Jammu and Kashmir terror funding case under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). He was lodged in Tihar Jail since 2019 after being charged by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the provisions of UAPA in the alleged terror funding case. But the Delhi court had granted him interim bail. Only after that, he was released from Tihar Jail on Wednesday. Engineer Rashid's Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) is contesting the assembly elections and recently the party released a manifesto and demanded Rashid's release.
