Event details

On March 13, 2019, Gopichand Patil was riding his scooter on Ghodbunder Road when a speeding car hit his vehicle. Patil was seriously injured in the accident and the driver fled from the spot. Police registered a case against him for negligence and other offences under the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act.

distribution of compensation

Gopichand Patil claimed that the accident caused 40 per cent disability, which affected his functioning. MACT recognised the claim and awarded him a compensation of ₹31.39 lakh. This mainly includes ₹25.65 lakh for loss of future income and ₹3.74 lakh for medical expenses.

At the time of the incident, Gopichand Patil's annual income was Rs 5 lakh. The disability had a major impact on his work and income. At one point, his income had almost dropped to zero. The tribunal took this into account in its decision and decided the compensation amount accordingly.
