Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced that the Union Cabinet on Monday approved PAN 2.0, under which PAN cards with QR code will be upgraded for free. The government will spend about Rs 1,435 crore on implementing the PAN 2.0 project.

What is PAN 2.0 project?

The PAN 2.0 project is an e-governance scheme aimed at improving taxpayer registration services through technology. Under this, the existing PAN/TAN system will be updated to make it faster, safer and more environmentally friendly. About 78 crore PAN card holders will benefit from this project.

With PAN 2.0, the government wants to make the existing system more fast, transparent and secure. This will give taxpayers easy and fast access to services. The use of integrated and accurate data will be ensured. This project will make digital services more secure and flexible.

A new facility will be available with a PAN card with having QR code

The new PAN card with QR code will bring many facilities for taxpayers:

• Quick Identification: Taxpayer information can be verified instantly using the QR code.
• Digital Security: QR code will keep the data secure and reduce the chances of fraud.
• Online Usage: Digital transactions and ease of filing process.

Changes coming under PAN 2.0

• Unified Portal: All tax-related services will be available on a single portal.
• Common Business Identifier: A single identity for merchants for all business activities.
• Affordable and faster services: The new system will save both time and cost.

How to get a new PAN card with a QR code?

PAN cardholders will be able to update their existing details and upgrade to a new card with a QR code for free. This process will be completely online and simple.
