This is the story of John David Ortiz, posted as a border patrol agent in Texas, who murdered four female sex workers. Melissa Ramirez, Claudine Ann Luera, Griselda Cantu and Janelle Ortiz... these are the names of the four women who became victims of his horrific crime. Ortiz's brutality stopped only when one victim escaped from his clutches.

The prediction of death came true

This hair-raising story begins on 3 September 2018, when the body of 29-year-old Melissa Ramirez was found on a deserted road. Melissa was a drug addict and worked as a sex worker. A week before her death, she had told her family that she was afraid someone would kill her. Although she did not name anyone, she said that she would be shot and her prediction proved correct.

Melissa was shot twice in the head. This was the first incident of targeted killings of sex workers in that area. Police found empty 40 caliber cartridges of Federal brand near Melissa's body. This is the company that supplies weapons to the police and other security forces. This clue made the case more complicated for the police.

Another corpse and the same empty cartridge

When the police started investigating the case, they found that Melsa resembled another sex worker Claudine Ann Luera. Now the police hoped that they might get clues about the murderer from Luera. But, it was not so. The police were still searching for Luera when exactly 10 days later, on September 13, she too was murdered. Luera's body was found on the roadside like Melissa's and she too had been shot in the head.

Luera was addicted to drugs and had become a sex worker to satisfy her addiction. Like Melissa, the police found empty cartridges of the same Federal brand near Luera's body. Seeing both the cases, the police realized that the work was done by the same person and the murderer was one of them in uniform. The police were busy searching for this serial killer when after two days they got a clue about the murderer.

A woman came running half naked

It was the day of September 15, when a police officer was filling fuel in his car at a petrol pump and a distraught half-naked woman approached him. She told him in panic that a man had attacked her in the parking lot. The woman's name was Erica Pena and she also worked as a sex worker. The police officer immediately made her sit in his car and assured her of safety.

Erica further said that a man named David comes to her as a regular customer. She was in the car with him and when during the conversation she mentioned the murder of those two women to David, his attitude suddenly changed. David immediately took out his pistol and pointed it at her head. Erica got scared, she quickly opened the car window and ran away. Erica said that he would kill her.

The body of a third woman was found again

The police officer immediately brought Erica to the station and informed the senior officers about the entire matter. After this, Erica gave the police the address of David's house, describing his appearance. Immediately a police team reached the given address. This house belonged to none other than John David Ortiz, posted as a Border Patrol Agent. However, David was not found at home. The police sealed his house.

While the police was still searching for David, news of another dead body being found came. A woman named Giselda Cantu was shot dead and thrown on the roadside. The police now started searching for him rapidly and finally found his car near a petrol pump. The police asked him to surrender, but here also he used his cunning mind.

The secret of the fourth murder was revealed during interrogation

He pretended to put his hands up and escaped. However, the police chased him and arrested him from the parking garage of a hotel. David initially denied any involvement in the murders, but when confronted, he broke down and confessed to his crimes.

Not only this, he also told the police officers about a fourth woman, Janelle Ortiz, whom he murdered on September 15 at the same petrol pump from where he had escaped by dodging the police. He had committed this murder before the police reached there. David told that when Erica escaped from him, he had realized that the police would soon catch him. Therefore, he committed the next two murders quickly.

David told the story behind the murder

During police interrogation, David said that he had decided that he would keep killing until he was caught. Now the question was why did David kill these women. He said that Melissa was his friend, but on the day of the murder, she was so drunk that she fainted in his car. Now David kept roaming around with her in his car. Because, he could neither drop her in this condition nor take her home.

When Melissa regained consciousness, she asked David to get out of the car. This made David furious and he shot Melissa in the head with his service revolver. He told the police that his anger had increased so much that he decided to eliminate all these sex workers. David said that these people have no work and they are part of the filth, so it is right to eliminate them.

However, during the hearing in the court, a different story emerged. David lived a double life. From the outside, he was a security agent. He was a good and ideal person for his wife and children. But, there was a devil hidden inside him. David used to visit prostitutes regularly and some of them started getting very close to him.

He started feeling a threat to his job, family, children, and image from these women. Perhaps Melissa also realized this and that is why she told her family that she would die soon. In the year 2022, the court convicted him in all four cases of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment without parole.
