Through initial investigation and technical clues, the police found out that a man named Rezaul Karim was involved in this kidnapping. Karim, who lives in Malda district of West Bengal, used to sell coconut water. Some time ago, he came to Pimpri Chinchwad and rented a flat from the victim. In a short time, he became friendly with the landlord and won his confidence.

Hijacking from planes, train, cars and boat

On October 17, Karim convinced the landlord to come with him on some pretext and brought him to Kolkata by plane. After this, on the pretext of showing the Ganga river, Karim took the landlord to Malda by train. Here he met some more of his companions and Karim told the landlord that those people had kidnapped him.

From here, these people took the landlord in their car and reached Jharkhand and then came to an island in the Ganges river located in the Rajmahal area by boat. Karim chose this place because his wife was from this area. Karim also met some other companions on the island and after this, these people called the landlord's son and demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore.

Police raided while crossing the swamps.

Meanwhile, while connecting the dots and searching for clues, the police came to know about the place where the kidnappers had hidden the house owner. Pimpri Chinchwad police immediately contacted the unit commander of Rajmahal police and an operation was planned. On the other hand, Karim was continuously calling the victim's son and demanding money. However, till now he had not told the place where the ransom money was to be delivered.

The police were also continuously trying to trace the number from which the kidnappers were demanding ransom. In the early hours of October 19, a joint operation was started with the senior officers of Pimpri Chinchwad and Rajmahal district police. The team traveled by boat, crossed many swamps, and also had to walk a long distance. At around 5 am, the police raided the island.

Police operation finally completed

The police operation was successful and the house owner was rescued safely. Two people were also arrested on the spot. However, the main accused Karim and his two companions managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness. After this, another of his associates Sajid Karim Bablu Sheikh was arrested from Thane. Sajid was the person who was to be sent to collect the ransom money.

Later, the police found out during the investigation that Rezaul Karim is an accused in a murder case in Malda district since 2013. His trial is currently pending and he was out on bail. The police admitted that as per a well-planned plan, Karim first developed a relationship with his landlord and then kidnapped him for money. At present, the police are searching for him.
