WW-II Era Bomb: There was a stir when a bomb from the British era was found in West Bengal

World War 2 Bomb:  Indian Air Force officials have disposed of a bomb from the time of World War II. This deadly bomb was found by villagers on June 29 when they were digging a field. When the district administration first informed the police, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took cognizance. The police's bomb squad immediately reached there. After their report, it was decided to send it to the army for disposal. The state government immediately contacted the Indian Air Force and a team of experts arrived from Kalaikunda Airport in the West Midnapore district.

This is how an 85-year-old live bomb was deactivated.

According to HT's report, this heavy bomb, made during the Second World War, i.e. around 1939, was found on the banks of the Subarnarekha river in Bhulanpur village, located in Gopiballavpur community block of Jhargram district. The Air Force team placed this bomb at a location before defusing it. Then they stacked more than 1000 sandbags to create a buffer wall around it. As a precautionary security measure, all the houses in the area were evacuated before the blast.

CM Mamata Banerjee expressed happiness.

Sharing a photo of the operation on X, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote, 'The bomb was defused safely and successfully. I thank all those involved for the good work.'

Let us tell you that the land, sea, and air forces of about 70 countries were involved in the Second World War. This is not the first time that a bomb dropped during the Second World War has been recovered alive. When the population increased in the 1990s, the need for more space was felt to meet human needs. After this, in the last 35 years, bombs have been found several times in different districts of this state.

The Indian Navy has also defused such bombs.

About 6 years ago, during the dredging of the Hooghly River near Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Port in Kolkata, a huge bomb from the era of World War II was found on Friday, creating a stir. That bomb was manufactured by the US Army and weighed about 450 kg. The US Army used similar bombs in the China-Burma (presently Myanmar)-India war zone between 1942 and 1945. Experts say that its explosion could have killed people within a radius of about half a kilometer. The employees of Kolkata Port Trust first thought that it was a torpedo. They contacted the Indian Navy base in Kolkata. Later, the army's help was sought to defuse the bomb.
