AIDS is spreading rapidly in this Islamic country with Sharia law, the number of HIV-infected patients has reached 44 thousand
An Islamic country in West Asia where Sharia law prevails. In a country where the rules for women regarding hijab are very strict, the number of HIV-infected patients is increasing rapidly. According to reports, the main reason behind this is sexual transmission.
Actually, we are talking about the Islamic Republic of Iran, where the number of HIV-positive patients is spreading rapidly. According to Ladan Abbasian, head of Iran's AIDS Research Center, official figures show 24,760 cases of HIV, but the actual number is estimated to be more than 44,000.
Infection spreading among youth and women
A faculty member of Tehran University of Medical Sciences says that out of the official figure of 24,760 people who are HIV positive, about 19 percent are women and this has increased to 32 percent in the first 6 months of 2024. This shows that the pattern of HIV transmission which used to be in men earlier is now spreading to women.
According to him, 73% of HIV-positive patients are between 20 and 45 years of age, hence there is a need to create more awareness and adopt measures in this age group.
Transmission pattern changed due to drugs.
While referring to the change in the transmission pattern of HIV infection in Iran, Abbasian, head of Iran's AIDS Research Center, said, 'Unfortunately, some psychoactive stimulants like marijuana and amphetamines expose people to high-risk sexual behavior, and this greatly increases the transmission of HIV.'
Sexual transmission is the main cause of HIV.
Abbasian has warned that there has been an increase in the pattern of spreading HIV infection through sexual relations. About 28 percent of the 24760 people have been infected with HIV through sexual relations. And this has increased to 65 percent in the first 6 months of 2024. That is, a change is being seen in the pattern of infection.
