Imran Khan's party marches to Islamabad; Section 144 imposed in Punjab over protests, internet suspended from Karachi to Rawalpindi
Pakistan's Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has announced a nationwide protest on Sunday. This protest has been done in support of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. Its name is the 'Do or Die' protest. At the same time, the Pakistani government has made full preparations to suppress this protest. Islamabad has been completely sealed. At the same time, internet services have been disrupted across the country.
This protest has been called in support of former Pakistan PM Imran Khan and the 26th Constitutional Amendment. The party had called upon people from across the country to march to Islamabad to take part in the protest. Meanwhile, several PTI workers marching towards Islamabad have been detained. This includes members of the party's national and provincial assemblies. They had set out from Multan division to march to Islamabad.
16 people were detained from Islamabad
Meanwhile, in another incident, police detained more than 200 workers marching towards Islamabad. The party claims that those detained include Shah Mehmood Qureshi's son Zain Qureshi, former minister Amir Dogar, Nadeem Qureshi, Wasim Badozai, Moinuddin Qureshi, and Rana Tufail Noon.
PTI leaders leading a convoy towards Islamabad for the protest have been arrested. As part of efforts to control the protesters, police detained 16 people from Faizabad, Islamabad. At the same time, law enforcement officials fired bullets in the air to disperse PTI workers gathered in the area. Authorities are taking strict measures to maintain order amid the ongoing protests.
Rawalpindi and Islamabad are completely sealed.
Strict orders have been issued to the authorities to prevent protesters from entering Islamabad. Due to the protests, the entry and exit gates of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have been completely sealed. Mobile internet services are closed in major cities including Karachi, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi. At the same time, more than 8 thousand additional police officers have been deployed in Islamabad along with Rangers and Frontier Constabulary (FC).
Heavy police force has also been deployed in Punjab province and Section 144 has been imposed. Under this, this ban will remain in force from 23 to 25 November. Section 144 was imposed in Islamabad two months ago. The protest announced by the party founder is focused on alleged election rigging, detention of party workers, and the 26th Constitutional Amendment. Party founder and former PM Imran Khan has been in jail since August.
