Iran's friendship with Russia proved costly, it had to bear huge losses from sea to sky.
Iran has been accused of supplying missiles and other weapons to Russia in the Ukraine war. After the Ukraine and Gaza wars, Iran has formed a separate Axis of State along with Russia and China, but it may have to suffer heavy losses due to this axis. Britain has started this. The British government has imposed new sanctions on Iran.
The UK Foreign Office said it would freeze the assets of Iran's national airline and its state-owned shipping company, which helped send the weapons to Russia. It also said it would impose sanctions on the Russian cargo ship Port Ola-3, which carried missiles from Iran. However, Iran has been rejecting these allegations.
Sanctions imposed on the completion of 1000 days of the Ukraine war
This announcement by Britain comes a day after the war in Ukraine was completed 1,000 years ago. A day earlier, US President Joe Biden had given Ukraine permission to use American missiles that could attack deep inside Russia.
Foreign Secretary David Lammy said in a statement before the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) announced the sanctions, "Iran's attempts to undermine global security are dangerous and unacceptable. We knew that any transfer of ballistic missiles from Iran to Russia would face a significant response.
G20 summit doubles efforts to help Ukraine
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said at the G-20 summit in Brazil that we need to double our efforts to support Ukraine as long as necessary. He appealed to world leaders to help Ukraine.
Iran suffers losses due to new sanctions.
The UK Foreign Office said the asset freeze would restrict Iran Air's ability to operate direct services from the United Kingdom. The action follows a previous round of sanctions against Iran and Russia, announced in September with Germany and France.
