'Seditious T-shirt' landed a man in jail, the first punishment for this crime under Hong Kong's new national security law.

Wearing a T-shirt with anti-national slogans proved costly for a person in Hong Kong. For this, he was convicted of treason on Monday. This is the first person to be convicted under the new National Security Law passed in March. The name of the accused is Chu Kai-Pong. He is 27 years old. He was arrested from MTR station on 12 June this year.

When Chu Kai-pong was arrested, he was wearing a T-shirt. The slogan 'Free Hong Kong, revolution of our times' was written on it. Along with this, he was wearing a yellow mask. 'FDNOL' was written on it. This is also connected to a slogan. It means 'Five demands, not even one less'.

Wore a T-shirt to remind of the protests

Both these slogans were raised during the massive protests in Hong Kong in 2019. Violent incidents also took place during the protests. After Chu Kai-pong was arrested, it was told in the court that he wore this T-shirt to remind people of the protests.

Under the new security law in Hong Kong, the maximum punishment for this crime is seven years, which was one year earlier. Not only this, but if collusion with foreign forces is found in this case, the punishment can also be 10 years. Many other countries including America have expressed concern over Hong Kong's new security law. America has said that vague provisions related to treason can be used to suppress dissent. Therefore, it is necessary to remove the loopholes in the national security system.

This slogan is the voice of those who believe in freedom.

This slogan was first raised in 2016. Hong Kong leader Edward Leung used it. He was contesting the by-election. He raised this slogan in his campaign. Leung said that this slogan represents those who believe in freedom. This slogan is the voice of those who are ready to fight for freedom with their blood and sweat.

In 1898, after losing the war with Britain, China leased Hong Kong to Great Britain for 99 years. Britain ruled Hong Kong until 1997. After the lease period ended, it was handed back to China. During this time, it was decided that a one country, two-systems policy would be implemented for Hong Kong. This meant that the economic and political systems there would work independently of China. But with decisions like the National Security Law, efforts are being made to change the system of Hong Kong.
