This country made a plan for the safety of Jews, now Palestinian supporters will be curbed
Anger against Israel is growing among Palestinian supporters around the world. Along with protests, it has now turned into violence against Jews and Israel supporters. The Dutch government has launched a new plan to tackle anti-Semitism. This plan comes two weeks after a mob attacked an Israeli football fence in Amsterdam.
Two weeks ago, Israeli supporters were attacked by Palestinian supporters during a football match in Amsterdam. On the morning of November 8, after a call to attack Maccabi Israel supporters on social media, they were attacked in different parts of the city. Since then, concerns have started being raised about the safety of Jews all over the world.
$4.7 million for security
The Dutch cabinet has set aside an additional 4.5 million euros ($4.7 million) annually for the scheme, some of which will go to boost security at Jewish sites. "Unfortunately, anti-Semitism has increased even more in the Netherlands over the past year. The events in Amsterdam two weeks ago have confirmed this for the whole Netherlands," Dutch Justice Minister David van Weel said.
Israeli and Dutch leaders were angry with the violence
The violence has sparked anger among Israeli and Dutch politicians. The Dutch Justice Minister has called the violence anti-Semitic and has called for the establishment of an anti-Semitic task force in the country, strict laws for those praising terrorism and investigation of violence during protests. Football fans will also be targeted to end anti-Semitic slogans in stadiums.
Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof said in a media briefing that the strategy is "a combination of suppression and prevention, we have found the right balance".
