Trump, who had promised to end the war, has started a new war, China has predicted it.

 

During the election, America's newly elected President Donald Trump had promised to end the war in Russia-Ukraine and the Middle East. But after winning the election, he has hinted at starting a new 'war' against China. He announced on Monday that after assuming power, he would impose a 10 percent tariff on products coming from China.

Apart from China, Trump has also announced to increase tariffs by 25 percent on exports from Canada and Mexico. Meanwhile, Chinese Embassy spokesperson Liu Pengyu in Washington has called Trump's decision a 'trade war' and said that no one will win this war.

In fact, Donald Trump is going to take over as President on 20 January 2025. Responding to how Trump will fulfill his economic agenda under the 'America First' policy, he has made it clear that apart from any additional tariff, he will impose another 10 percent tariff on China.

Chinese Embassy spokesman Liu Pengyu has said, 'China believes that economic and trade cooperation between Beijing and Washington has been naturally beneficial for both countries. Therefore, neither of them can win a trade war or a tariff war.'

However, in the last few years, there has been a lot of tension in mutual cooperation between the two countries, most of the products that both countries sell to each other come under tariff. Out of this, 66.4 percent of the US imports from China and 58.3 percent of China's imports from the US come under tariff.

Will tariff war harm America?

On the other hand, a study by the National Retail Federation (NRF) of America has warned that if this new proposed tariff is implemented, then it could reduce the annual purchasing power of American consumers by about $78 billion. According to the NRF report, this tariff may affect clothing, toys, furniture, appliances, footwear and travel items from the consumer product category.
