Are young people disillusioned with marriage? Here 1 in every 4 people can live single for life

In earlier times, getting married was considered a very important step of life, but with changing times, this thinking has started changing, now the number of single people can increase more than before.

Single for Life: People's excitement about marriage in India is seen, but the situation is different in America, which is called the superpower of the world. A research shows that the trend of being single among young adults is increasing in the USA, so it is feared that a quarter of people will remain single for 50 years. These changes reflect broader societal changes, including falling marriage rates, changing priorities and increasing acceptability of being single in Western countries.

A study by the Pew Research Center has revealed several reasons for the trend of being lonely throughout life. Young adults prefer personal and professional growth over romantic relationships. Men in particular are more likely to remain single than women. In addition, a separate Pew Risers from 2020 found that half of young adults who did not want a relationship cited personal needs and other priorities as their main reason. Overall, 1 in 4 people in the US can remain single for life.

Changes in social norms were once seen as a stigma on being single, but now it has gained acceptability, especially in industrialized countries. Many psychologists noted that today's youth are less inclined towards romantic relationships, which is the reason for the increasing satisfaction about being single. Moreover, traditional aspirations of marriage and parenthood are becoming less attractive. While 69% of unmarried adults in the 18-34 age group express their desire to get married someday, nearly a quarter are not sure about it, and 8% reject the idea completely. The rising cost of childcare and financial pressure make young people refrain from following traditional family structures.

Young adults are finding companionship, emotional support and stability outside of romantic relationships. Friendships, community involvement, and shared activities, such as joining clubs or classes, provide a sense of membership that rivals or even surpasses traditional relationships. These connections challenge the notion that romantic relationships are the last destination.

Embracing Relaxation

Wanting to be single is not choosing loneliness. Instead, it often promotes peace and self-discovery. Young people distinguish between solitude and solitude, valuing the personal growth and independence that living alone brings. Friendship also plays an important role in their life.

The trend of being single among the youth shows how our values are shifting. Now the thinking of society has started changing about personal needs, different types of partnership. Now singlehood is being celebrated, not embarrassed about it.
