Check PF account balance through SMS, learn the step-by-step process

 

Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) issues e-passbook i.e. EPF passbook to PF account holders. EPF passbook contains all the information related to the PF account including contributions, interest, and withdrawal.

Digital Passbook is used to track PF balance, the contribution made by the employer, and interest earned on their PF account. Apart from this, the e-passbook can also be used as proof of PF contribution and balance amount details while applying for a loan or other financial service.

The facility of e-passbook for PF accounts is available only for those employees who have registered their UAN numbers with the EPFO portal. Let us take a look at how to register a UAN number on the EPFO portal and access the EPF passbook.

How to Register UAN on EPFO Portal

  • Go to the official website of EPFO – epfindia.gov.in.
  • Now click on For Employees inside Our Services section.
  • Select UAN Member e-Sewa option from the drop-down menu and click on Sign in.
  • Click on Activate UAN located below the login form on the login page.
  • Now enter your UAN, name, date of birth, mobile number, and captcha code.
  • Click on Get Authorization PIN.
  • You will get an OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter OTP and click on Submit.
  • Once the OTP is verified, you will be asked to create a password for your UAN account.
  • Enter the password and click on Submit.

As soon as this process is complete, you will get a confirmation message on your registered mobile number and email address. Once the UAN is activated, you can log in to your account using your UAN and password. You will be able to download your EPF passbook after 6 hours of completion of registration of your UAN number on the EPFO portal.

How to Download EPF Passbook Online

  • Go to the EPFO portal.
  • Click on For Employees option in the menu bar and select Member Passbook.
  • Now enter your UAN (Universal Account Number) and Password.
  • Now you will be able to see the details of your EPF account.
  • Click on the Download e-passbook option to download the EPF passbook.
  • Select the financial year for which you want to download the e-passbook and enter the captcha code.
  • Click on Download to download your EPF passbook online.

  • To check your EPF passbook balance through SMS, your mobile number should be registered on the EPFO portal.
  • Type from your registered mobile number and send an SMS to 7738299899.

The SMS facility is available in a total of 10 languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, Punjabi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Gujarati. The last 3 letters in the SMS indicate your preferred language. Such as ENG for English, HIN for Hindi, PUN for Punjabi, GUJ for Gujarati, MAR for Marathi, KAN for Kannada, TEL for Telugu, TAM for Tamil, MAL for Malayalam and Have to send BEN for Bengali.

Wait for a while after sending the SMS. EPFO will reply with an SMS containing details of your last PF contribution, balance amount, and KYC details.

Check EPF Account Balance by Phone Number

  • Dial 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number and give a missed call.
  • After this, you will get an SMS with the details of the EPF account including the balance amount in your account.
  • In case you have more than one EPF account, the SMS will also contain the details of the latest account active on the Universal Account Number (UAN).
