Diabetes and kidney disease increased the risk of heart disease 28 years ago, study reveals shocking
Often we assume that diabetes and kidney disease affect only these organs, but these diseases can gradually affect our whole body, especially our heart.
Often we assume that diabetes and kidney disease affect only these organs, but these diseases can gradually affect our whole body, especially our heart. Let us know how these three diseases are related to each other and how people with diabetes and kidney disease are more at risk of heart disease.
A recent research has revealed that the risk of heart disease (CVD) in people suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD) and type 2 diabetes is estimated to be 8 to 28 years earlier than others. Scientists at Northwestern University in Chicago conducted a simulation research to estimate the effect of cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome on the prognosis of cardiovascular disease (CVD) threats. They found that patients with chronic kidney disease alone had a higher risk of developing dick disease eight years earlier than those without heart disease. In patients with type 2 diabetes, this risk may be about a decade earlier than in people without the disease.
What do the experts say?
Among patients with both chronic kidney disease and diabetes, the risk for CVD was estimated to increase in women at 26 years before 26 years and in men at 28 years earlier. "Our findings help explain the combination of risk factors and predict when the risk factor is higher at which the risk of cardiovascular disease is higher," said lead study author Vaishnavi Krishnan, researcher at Northwestern University.
Who is more at risk, men or women?
The study found that without cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome, the expected age at which they reached a greater heart disease risk for women was 68 years and 63 years for men. The findings will be presented at the American Heart Association's Scientific Session 2024, to be held Nov. 16-18 in Chicago.
