Eye Care: Is Smartphone Affecting Your Eyesight? So don't take tension, take care like this!

In the era of digitization, the use of smartphones has increased a lot. Screen time has also increased due to the continuous use of smartphones throughout the day. Its effect has started falling on our eyes. An example of this has come to the fore a few days back. Prolonged use of smartphones can damage the eyes. To avoid this, doctors have shared some tips.

Adjust the brightness setting on your mobile screen: Too high and too low brightness and contrast are harmful to your eyes. You can adjust these things by going to your device settings.

Don't forget to blink. Blinking regularly (more than a second) is very important. It maintains moisture in your eyes and reduces tension. Make sure you blink 10 to 20 times every half an hour while using the phone. Opening the eyelids helps the eyes to refocus.

Use Dark Mode: Dark Mode is also known as Dark Theme. This setting is now available in almost all smartphone models. Switching your device too dark mode means it will display white text on a dark background. Using dark mode reduces blue light exposure. It helps with digital eye strain. Dark mode can be turned on through the display setting of the phone.

Increase the text size on your smartphone: Make sure that the text size on your smartphone screen is large. The small text puts more emphasis on the eyes. You can easily change the text size by going to Settings. All smartphones allow you to change contrast, brightness, and text settings. The text size should be increased so that the messages can be read easily.

Use Screen Time on iPhone and the Digital Well-Being feature on Android devices: iPhone and Android phones have settings that help reduce your screen time on the device. With Screen Time on iPhone, users can manage their time using the app, and schedule time away from the device. Furthermore, they can also block apps or notifications when they want to step away from their device. Similarly, Android phones also have a Digital Wellbeing feature. These include useful features such as an app limit timer and a 'wind down' or 'bedtime' mode, which helps users focus on sleep.

Use Night Shift on iPhone and Night Light on Android phones. Night Shift on iPhone and Night Light on Android phones can adjust the pop of the color spectrum on the display. It gives rest to the eyes.

Keep your smartphone screen clean: Smartphone screens can get damaged very easily. Handling the phone with dirty hands or keeping it in a bad place can damage its screen. Continuous viewing of dirty screens puts extra strain on the eyes. That's why it is important to keep cleaning the screen of the phone continuously. The screen of the phone can be cleaned with a soft cloth or a simple microfibre cloth.

Follow the 20/20/20 Rule: A general rule of thumb for smartphone use is 20/20/20. This means that every 20 minutes you should look at something at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. This helps protect your eyes.
