We eat medicines to avoid disease, but if the medicine is getting fake or such medicines are being found whose quality is bad, then what will happen to us? Instead of recovering, you will get sicker. However, some companies are putting people's lives at stake for profit and the same is happening in many pharmaceutical companies of Himachal Pradesh where samples of medicines are constantly failing.
Questions have once again arisen on the pharmaceutical industry in Himachal Pradesh. The recent drug alert issued by the central drug authority in October has raised concerns. During the investigation, samples of 38 medicines manufactured in Himachal Pradesh failed. These include medicines for diseases like fever, BP, asthma, and cancer, which can pose a threat to the health of the common people.
Which drug samples failed?
The drugs that failed include bioacetamol for fever, divalprox for epilepsy, sepcem for tonsils, tarvigres for BP, montilukast for asthma, stemeril and rabeprozole for vomiting, trypson for inflammation and liposomal for cancer. These are the names of only a few medicines. There are 38 such drugs, which did not meet the standards or whose samples have failed. Many of these medicines have reached the market and some are being used in people's homes. After the failure of the sample, the Drug Department has instructed to lift the batches of all medicines from the market.
How to identify counterfeit and bad drugs?
* Pay attention to the package of the drug. Spelling mistakes, faded colors and unusual fonts on packaging can be signs of fake medicines. Verify the barcode and batch number online or through the app.
* Check MRP and manufacturing details. The manufacturing date, expiry date and MRP should be clearly written on each medicine. Be cautious if this information is missing.
* Check the quality of the medicine. If the color, size and texture of the medicine look different, contact the doctor or pharmacist. Check the approval status of the drug. Ensure the legality and approval of the respective brand before buying the medicine.
* Be careful while shopping for medicines online. Always buy medicine from trusted platforms.
What to do if a fake medicine is found?
If you doubt the quality of any medicine, immediately file a complaint with the local drug department or health authority. Also, contact the doctor and consult for a change in medication or treatment.
