Sawan 2023: This Shiva temple is 5000 years old, Mahadev imprisoned Yamraj here!

Ujjain is home to the world famous Mahakaleshwar Temple which is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The fear of premature death goes away by seeing Mahakaleshwar. Every day lakhs of devotees come to Ujjain to visit Baba Mahakal. According to a legend, this religious town has a miraculous temple of Lord Shiva, where Lord Shiva had chained Yamraj by appearing to protect the devotee. Due to this miracle of Lord Shiva, devotees offer special prayers to the temple throughout the year and pray for long life and health. Shravan month has started. For this purpose, many sadhaks can go here for darshan.

Sage Markandeya conquered death here. 

There is a 5000-year-old temple of Lord Shri Markandeshwar Mahadev at 36th place in Choryasi Mahadev on the banks of Vishnusagar. Which is believed to be from the era of Emperor Vikramaditya. The priest of the temple told that this is the same temple where sage Markandeya defeated death and became immortal here. It is mentioned in the Padma Purana that sage Mrikand Muni was blessed with a son by the penance of Lord Brahma, but his son sage Markandeya was short-lived and sage Mrikand was troubled by this worry.

One day at the request of the boy he told him all this, after which Markandeya did severe penance to Lord Shankar in the temple of Avantika Tirtha Mahakal forest, wishing to live long and become immortal. When sage Markandeya was 12 years old, he worshiped Lord Shankar and Yamraj came to take him. And caught Shivling with both hands.

Mahadev chained Yamraj in the temple

Lord Shiva appeared from the noose thrown by Yamraj to take Markandeya's life and he chained Yamraj and took him to the temple. Also gave a boon to sage Markandeya that now you will live for 12 Kalpas. After the blessings, sage Markandeya became eight immortal. Although many events are held in the temple throughout the year, during the month of Shravan, a large number of devotees visit the Markandeshwar Mahadev temple.

Special worship and aarti of God are done in the night. After the Mangala Aarti, the devotees perform Abhishek worship of the Lord for the whole day. After this Puja, Panchamrit Abhishek Puja, Shringar, and Sandhya Aarti start from 4 pm.
