BCCI has taken a big step regarding the coach of Team India. Instead of investing in a new coach, he has proposed to extend Rahul Dravid to his current role. According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, the BCCI had approached Rahul Dravid last week to take the deal forward. However, it has not been confirmed yet whether Dravid has accepted this offer or not. However, the Indian Cricket Board is considering this move as a masterstroke by Dravid and there are special reasons for it. It is noteworthy that Rahul Dravid's previous agreement as the head coach of Team India ended at the end of the 2023 World Cup.

Now the question arises as to why is BCCI willing to keep Dravid as the coach. The answer lies in maintaining continuity in the structure that he has been working on continuously for the last two years. Since Rahul Dravid plays a vital role in this structure, the Indian board does not want any disruption due to his possible departure.

At present there is no information on whether Rahul Dravid has accepted BCCI's offer or not. However, if he agrees, his coaching responsibilities are likely to begin with India's tour of South Africa starting on December 10. This tour includes three T20 Internationals, as many ODIs and 2 Test matches, the first Test will be held in Centurion from 26 December and the second in Cape Town from 3 January.

After the South Africa tour, Rahul Dravid will prepare for England's tour of India for a 5-match T20 series in June ahead of next year's T20 World Cup.
