IND vs AUS: Gill and Shardul will not play in the third ODI against Australia, Axar Patel may be out of the World Cup
Before the third ODI match against Australia, the Indian team has suffered not one but three big setbacks simultaneously. Even before the third and last ODI to be played in Rajkot, team all-rounder Akshar Patel has been out of the team due to injury. Whereas, Shubhman Gill and Shardul Thakur have been rested.
Akshar Patel has been included in the World Cup squad. He is currently undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. Akshar's unavailability has raised hopes that Ravichandran Ashwin could potentially feature in the World Cup. Ashwin has performed amazingly in the first two ODIs. Especially during the match in Indore on Sunday, Ashwin took three wickets.
Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur have been rested due to the return of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Hardik in the last ODI in Rajkot. India is maintaining an unassailable 2-0 lead in the current three-match series. Jasprit Bumrah is expected to rejoin the team after the first ODI in Mohali. India will play the third and last ODI on 27 September.
The selectors will have to name the final 15-player World Cup squad by September 27. The teams of India and Australia will fly from Indore to Rajkot on Tuesday afternoon. India will look to make a clean sweep against Australia.
