Kamindu Mendis Century: Kamindu Mendis hit his 5th Test century, equaled the record of Don Bradman in his 8th Test

Sri Lankan all-rounder Kamindu Mendis has scored a century in the second Test against New Zealand in Galle. Mendis has scored his fifth century in his short career of just eight Test matches. With this, he has equaled the great batsman Don Bradman. He too had scored five centuries in the first 13 innings. However, the record for the fastest five Test centuries is held by Everton Weeks, who achieved this feat in just ten innings. Not only this, Mendis had created an astonishing world record with a half-century on the first day of this match. In the 147-year history of Test cricket, Kamindu Mendis became the first player in the world to score more than fifty runs in eight consecutive Test matches after his debut.

Kamindu Mendis is playing the 13th innings of his Test career in Galle and as soon as he scored a century, he has crossed the 900-run mark. With this, he has become the 5th batsman to score 900 runs in the least number of Test innings. The record of scoring the fastest 900 runs in the Test is jointly held by Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli and West Indies' Everton Weeks. Both of them achieved this feat in 11 innings. Whereas Sunil Gavaskar played 12 Test innings for this.

Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. However, the start was not good. The team lost its first wicket at the score of 2 runs. But after this, all the batsmen batted brilliantly. Dinesh Chandimal and Kamindu Mendis scored centuries. Dimuth Karunaratne scored 46 runs, Angelo Mathews scored 88 and captain Dhananjay de Silva scored 44 runs, based on which Sri Lanka has crossed 400 runs at the loss of 5 wickets.
