The title of Pakistan Super League 2024 (PSL 2024) went to Islamabad United. Under the captaincy of Shadab Khan, Islamabad United captured the trophy by defeating Multan Sultans by 2 wickets in the final. The winning team gets prize money worth lakhs of rupees. However, it is interesting to note that the prize money given to the winning team in PSL is much less than that in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The difference in prize money becomes apparent when the two leagues are compared. PSL-winning team Islamabad United received approximately Rs 4.13 crore. In contrast, IPL 2023 winners Chennai Super Kings received a prize money of Rs 20 crore. This reflects a huge difference of almost 5 times in championship prize money between the two leagues.
Similarly, PSL runners-up Multan Sultans got around Rs 1.65 crore, while IPL 2023 runners-up Gujarat Titans got Rs 12.5 crore. This represents a difference of more than 7 times in prize money between the runner-up teams of both leagues. It is noteworthy that the team finishing third in IPL also gets more money than the champion team of PSL. The team finishing third in IPL gets Rs 7 crore.
Additionally, when compared to the Women's Premier League, the prize money in the PSL is significantly lower. Women's IPL 2024 winners Royal Challengers Bangalore received Rs 6 crore as prize money, while runner-up Delhi Capitals received Rs 3 crore.
