Shreyas Iyer achieved a big feat, and became the third fastest Indian player to reach 2000 ODI runs!

In an extraordinary display of batting skills, Shreyas Iyer achieved a remarkable feat during the ICC World Cup 2023 match between India and Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, November 2. The right-handed Indian batsman became the third fastest Indian to reach the 2000-run mark in ODIs by achieving the feat in just 49 innings.

Earlier in the tournament, it was Shubman Gill who held the title of the fastest batsman in the world to reach the 2000-run mark. He achieved this milestone during the match against New Zealand at HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. The second fastest Indian to reach this milestone was Shikhar Dhawan, who achieved the feat in his 48th innings during the match against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad in November 2014.

Shreyas Iyer's achievements at the national level are showing no signs of stopping. He also shares the distinction of being the 12th fastest batsman in the world to score 2000 ODI runs. Other skilled international cricketers like West Indies' Gordon Greenidge, England's Jonny Bairstow, Scotland's Kyle Coetzer, and Pakistan's Fakhar Zaman are also included in the list.

Iyer took the crease after Shubmangil's brilliant performance during the match against Sri Lanka, who scored 92 runs with the help of 11 fours and two sixes. Although Virat Kohli was out soon after after scoring 88 runs, Iyer along with KL Rahul made a valuable partnership of 60 runs for the fourth wicket. Iyer's brilliant innings did not stop there, he completed his half-century in just 36 balls and ultimately finished with a remarkable score of 82 runs off 56 balls, which included three fours and six powerful sixes.

Iyer's contribution to India's batting capability was essential, especially after the 2019 World Cup when he emerged as a favorite to bat at No. 4. He made a remarkable comeback during the Asia Cup after recovering from a back injury and has consistently excelled since then. Ahead of the World Cup, he demonstrated his exceptional form with the bat, scoring a century against Australia in a three-match bilateral series.
