This batsman 'imitated' Rohit Sharma, and hit so many sixes on Mitchell Starc, that a record was made.
Australia's legendary fast bowler Mitchell Starc has taken many wickets in international cricket and has troubled many batsmen with his stormy bowling. But Starc will never forget 2024. Especially the dates of 24 June and 27 September have been recorded as black days for him in the pages of history. Starc, who was badly beaten by Indian captain Rohit Sharma in the T20 World Cup, had to face a similar situation against England just 3 months later, where Liam Livingstone hit a hat-trick of sixes in his one over and scored so many runs that it proved to be the most expensive over in Australia's ODI history.
This was the condition of Starc in the fourth ODI against England at Lord's on Friday, 27 September. The match started late due to rain and hence a game of 39-39 overs was decided. In such a situation, England's batsmen needed to do explosive batting to score maximum runs and that is what happened. Ben Duckett and captain Harry Brook played excellent and fast innings but the real show was stolen by the devastating batting of the power hitter Liam Livingstone, the most dangerous scene of which was seen in the last over, when Starc was targeted.
Left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc came to bowl the 39th i.e. the last over of the innings and Livingstone hit 4 sixes and 1 four in this over. Livingstone hit a very high and long six on the very first ball at long-on. It seemed that the ball went to the roof of the stadium. The next ball was empty but then Livingstone hit a hat-trick of sixes on the third, fourth, and fifth balls. With this, he completed his half-century in just 25 balls which is a new record for the fastest ODI fifty at Lord's. Then it was the last ball of the over and Livingstone hit 4 runs on it. In this way, a total of 28 runs came from the entire over which proved to be the most expensive over by Australia in the history of ODI cricket.
Livingstone scored an unbeaten 62 runs in just 27 balls, which included 7 sixes and 3 fours. Based on his innings, England scored 312 runs in 39 overs. Livingstone's explosion in the last over reminded us of Indian captain Rohit Sharma. During the India-Australia match in the T20 World Cup Super-8 round on June 24, Rohit scored 29 runs in Starc's over, including 4 sixes and 1 four. That too was one of Australia's most expensive overs in T20. About two months before that, Karn Sharma had hit 3 sixes in Starc's over in the IPL.
