Vinesh Phogat participated in the 50 Kg category of women's wrestling in the Paris Olympics. She upset the world number 1 wrestler Yui Susaki in the quarter-final match. Then she made it to the finals by winning the semi-final in a spectacular manner. However, just before the match, her weight was found to be 100 grams more and she was disqualified. After this, Vinesh Phogat filed a petition in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), where during the hearing, Vinesh exposed the Paris Olympics. During this, Vinesh also told why she failed to lose weight before the final.
Vinesh exposed the truth
Vinesh has revealed many irregularities in the Paris Olympics in front of CAS. While explaining the shortcomings of the Paris Olympics, she revealed the real reason for not being able to lose weight. According to Vinesh's side, the distance between the wrestling venue and the athlete village was very long. Apart from this, her schedule of matches was very busy, due to which she was not able to lose weight.
Let us tell you that Harish Salve represented the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and Vinesh Phogat in the court. He presented every kind of legal argument and reasoning to get justice for the Indian wrestler. The case was heard for about 3 hours on 9 August. It was heard by Annabelle Bennett and her decision may come today. The IOA has expressed hope that the decision will be in favor of Vinesh.
Will Vinesh get silver?
Vinesh was disqualified before the final match for being overweight. After this, Guzman Lopez, who was Vinesh's opponent in the semi-finals, played the final match in her place. However, Lopez lost but won the silver medal. The Indian wrestler's petition talks about sharing this medal and now the IOA is hoping for a decision in its favor. If this happens, then Vinesh will be expected to get the silver medal today i.e. on August 10. This will also increase India's medal count to 7 and will equal the Tokyo Olympics.
