Dial 401 Scam: Now cyber scammers are cheating people through this new scam, know and be careful!

Every day new methods of cyber fraud are being adopted in the country, and cyber criminals are targeting people's bank accounts. Although there may not be a straightforward way to avoid falling victim to such schemes, having the right information is essential to protect yourself. Currently, a new type of scam is spreading in the country known as the “Dial 401” scam, and it is important to be aware of it.

How do swindlers trap you?

Cybercriminals engage people in phone conversations after providing some misleading information and instructing them to dial 401. They ask the person to dial 401 as well as their number. The conversation usually goes like this: "Sir, to cancel the parcel, dial 401 and also dial this... (scammer's number)." By doing this, calls coming to your phone number are forwarded to the fraudster's number.

How do they trap individuals?

Cyber ​​fraudsters contact people, claiming that a parcel has arrived for them and requesting to confirm the delivery address. When you say that we have not ordered any parcel then they say that it is okay but if this parcel is booked on your number then you will have to cancel it.

To cancel the parcel, the victim is instructed to dial 401 along with the number to which the call is to be forwarded. After this, the victim's incoming calls are forwarded to the scammer's number. After this, he takes a new SIM card from your number and your number is switched off. As soon as the SIM card is issued, the fraudster also breaks into your bank account.

What to do if call forwarding happens by mistake?

Open your calling app and go to Settings.

In Settings, tap the option for "Call Forwarding."

Here you will see whether the call is being forwarded or not.

If it is on then turn it off.

If you experience any further problems, contact customer service and ask to turn off call forwarding.
