Swiggy Fined by Court:  A case has come up regarding Swiggy, which has attracted the attention of many people. The court has imposed a heavy fine on Swiggy for collecting money in an incorrect manner. Let us tell you about it in detail. 

You must have heard about the food delivery app Swiggy. Most people use it to order food online. Shortly after ordering, the food is delivered to the place specified by the people. A case has come up regarding Swiggy, which has attracted the attention of many people. The court has imposed a heavy fine on Swiggy for collecting money in an incorrect manner. Let us tell you about it in detail. 

The court imposed a fine

A customer from Hyderabad filed a complaint against Swiggy that the company had charged him more money by increasing the delivery distance. On this complaint, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has imposed a fine of Rs 35,000 on Swiggy.

What is the whole matter 

Hyderabad resident Emmadi Suresh Babu had filed a complaint against Swiggy in the consumer court. He claimed that he was a member of Swiggy One, which gives him free delivery. Despite this, Swiggy charged him a delivery fee. He said that on November 1, 2023, he had ordered food from a restaurant from Swiggy which was about 9 km away from his house. But, food delivery platform Swiggy increased this distance to 14 km and charged him Rs 103 for the delivery distance. 

What did the court order? 

The consumer court ordered Swiggy to refund Rs 103 to Emmadi Suresh Babu. Apart from this, it has ordered the online food delivery platform to pay Rs 5 thousand to the customer for mental agony and inconvenience. The court also directed Swiggy to pay Rs 5 thousand separately along with Emmadi Suresh Babu's litigation fees and deposit Rs 25 thousand in the Consumer Welfare Fund of Rangareddy District Commission. Swiggy has 45 days to comply with these orders.
