People will be able to buy Honda's electric scooter cheaply even without government subsidy, the company will make this record
Right now, if you go to buy an electric scooter in the country, the government gives a subsidy on it. Earlier it was available under the name FAME, now it has been re-launched under the name PM E-Drive. But have you ever thought what will happen if this subsidy ends? Honda 2-Wheelers has found a solution to this and the company says that its electric scooters Honda Activa e and Honda QC1 will remain in people's budget despite not getting subsidies.
Honda has launched the Activa E with a portable battery, whose battery can be easily changed at its battery swapping station. On the other hand, the QC1 electric scooter has a fixed battery. Because of this, it also gets 26 liters of under-seat boot space. Both the scooters give a range of up to 102 km on a single charge.
E-scooters will remain in the budget even without a subsidy
Yogesh Mathur, Sales and Marketing Director, Honda 2-Wheelers, says that if we look at the growth of the EV market in the last 5 years, it has been very volatile in terms of government subsidies (Central and State). Sometimes the government starts it, sometimes it stops it. So when we were developing Honda's electric vehicles, they were developed without expecting to get government subsidy. So even if government subsidy is not received, their products will still remain viable in the market.
The company's statement clearly indicates that the price of both of its products will be such that they remain competitive in the market and can also fit into people's budget. So that even if the government ends the subsidy on electric vehicles, the sale of its products will not be affected. The company has yet to announce the price of both Activa e and QC1. Their booking will start from January 1, 2025, and delivery will start from February.
The company will create a record of 1 lakh scooter sales.
According to ET's report, Honda 2-Wheelers India's President and CEO Sutsumu Otani says that he has set a target of selling 1 lakh units of these electric scooters in a year after their launch. However, he has no intention of exporting them from India right now.
The company has just launched Honda Activa E in cities like Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai. The company is setting up a network of battery swapping stations for this. Therefore, you can buy this scooter without battery and also with 'battery rent' i.e. 'battery as a service' facility. The company is planning to set up at least 500 battery swapping stations in these three cities.
