Entertainment: Shah Rukh Khan will not be seen in Farah Khan's Don 3, ongoing talks with this 'A-list' Akhtar: Report

Don 3 is one of those movies which has created a lot of buzz on social media. Earlier, producer Ritesh Sidhwani had confirmed in an interview that Farhan Akhtar is working on Don 3, and once he completes it an official announcement would be made. Now if reports are to be believed then Shah Rukh Khan will not be a part of Don 3.

A source told Pinkvilla, “Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani have had detailed discussions with Shah Rukh Khan on Don 3 several times. Before the pandemic, some ideas were also discussed, which took the shape of a script through the pandemic. There have been recent reunions as well, but Shah Rukh is not keen on coming back as a don again at this point in time. He is keen on doing commercial films that cater to a universal section of the audience, and Don certainly does not fit the category of cinema that he is set to do for a few years to come. He has conveyed his decision to the stakeholders in Excel.

As per the source, Farhan Akhtar came up with the idea of ​​Don 3 featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and a next-generation star of three generations of Dons together, however, the idea did not seem to fit with Shah Rukh. "But Shah Rukh felt the idea of ​​rotating Don's universe would be gimmicky and hence advised the team to drop him out," added the source.

The source concluded, "Currently talks are on with a hero who has done two films with Excel in the last decade. He is keen to step in as Don but has his own objections as the franchise has a lot to do with it." The actors portraying Virasat and Don cannot be replicated by anyone. Don will be rebooted once one of the young actors takes up the challenge."

Meanwhile, Farhan Akhtar is currently working on the female-centric film Jee Le Zara, starring Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, and Alia Bhatt. The shooting of the film is to begin in November and it is said to be targeted for a 2024 release. On the other hand, Shah Rukh Khan is currently busy shooting for his upcoming film Jawan, which also stars Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi. The film, directed by Atlee, is scheduled to release on September 7. They also have Rajkumar Hirani's Danki in the pipeline.
