The platform itself will take this responsibility

Albanese has also said that it will be the responsibility of the social media platforms to take appropriate steps to prevent children under the age of 16 from accessing the platform. It will not be the responsibility of parents or children.

Communications Minister Michel Rolland said that the list of these social media platforms includes Meta's social media platform Instagram and Facebook. Along with this, ByteDance's TikTok and Elon Musk's X will also be banned. It is expected that Alphabet's YouTube may also be included in this list. However, social media companies have not yet reacted to this statement.

Earlier, France had proposed to ban social media for children under the age of 15.
