A law will be made, children under 16 years of age will not be able to use Facebook-Instagram in this country
Social Media Ban: There is a discussion going on all over the world about the harm being caused to children by social media. Meanwhile, a country has taken a big step in this matter and decided to ban social media for children below 16 years of age.
Teen on Social Media: The Australian government is going to take a big decision regarding social media users. The Australian government has said that it is making a law to ban social media for children under the age of 6. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese himself said this in a news conference.
Social media is dangerous for children
Albany said in the news conference that social media is causing a lot of harm to our children. To avoid this harm, it is necessary to ban it in time. Therefore, a law to ban social media for children under the age of 16 will be introduced in Parliament this year. It will come into force 12 months after it is ratified by the lawmakers.
The law will be strictly enforced
Anthony has also expressed that not only will a law be brought to ban social media for children under the age of 16, but it will also be strictly implemented. Even children will not be allowed to use social media without the consent of their parents.
The platform itself will take this responsibility
Albanese has also said that it will be the responsibility of the social media platforms to take appropriate steps to prevent children under the age of 16 from accessing the platform. It will not be the responsibility of parents or children.
Communications Minister Michel Rolland said that the list of these social media platforms includes Meta's social media platform Instagram and Facebook. Along with this, ByteDance's TikTok and Elon Musk's X will also be banned. It is expected that Alphabet's YouTube may also be included in this list. However, social media companies have not yet reacted to this statement.
Many countries are worried, but Australia took action
Many countries are concerned about the harm being caused to children due to social media and have also brought laws to stop it. But Australia's policy seems to be the strictest in this matter. Earlier, France had proposed to ban social media for children under the age of 15. At the same time, the US has also instructed the platform to ask permission from parents for children under the age of 13 to access social media.
