Death sentence to the accused of rape in 10 days, Mamta will present the bill in the assembly, know why there is a ruckus
Mamata Banerjee's government will introduce a bill in the assembly to provide death penalty for rapists in West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee's government has received cabinet approval for this bill. This bill will be passed in the two-day special session of the West Bengal Assembly and will later be sent to the Governor for approval. A huge controversy has emerged on this issue and politics has also started.
After the rape and murder case in Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital, on August 28, Mamata Banerjee announced that a two-day special session of the assembly would be called, where the state government would pass an anti-rape law with the death penalty for the rapist. The session is starting on September 2. This bill will be introduced during the two-day session.
Why is Mamata introducing the anti-rape bill?
- The main objective of passing this law is to speed up the process of prosecution and decision.
- Mamata Banerjee and her government want to hang the accused rapist within 10 days.
- Mamata wants the trial to be conducted within 10 days of the crime being committed or the accused being proven guilty.
- The draft bill has been approved in the cabinet meeting of the West Bengal government.
- The bill will be passed in a special session of the Assembly on September 2 and 3.
What is in the draft of the anti-rape bill?
- Rape or rape and murder cases should be heard in fast-track courts
- Immediate medical examination of the rapist and molester.
- Immediate death penalty if convicted.
- The state has a separate right to impose the death penalty.
- The Centre should also convert the trial of rape and murder cases into a fast-track process.
There was a ruckus on the anti-rape bill
According to Arunabha Ghosh, senior lawyer of Calcutta High Court, there is no provision for the state government to bring a law on the death penalty in the state. This can only be done through Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, which can again be struck down by the Supreme Court, whatever Mamata Banerjee is doing is just for politics. This bill has no recognition and authority to take a decision. Apart from political gains, this bill has no future.
Former West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh told TV9 Bharatvarsh that the state government has no provision to bring such a law on the death penalty state-wise. It is the job of the central house to bring a law for the country. Mamata is doing all this drama for political gains.
