A murderer who killed his own sister-in-law and her three-year-old innocent child. He ended two lives just for a gold necklace. After the murder, the police kept looking for him for four years, but could not find any clue. He was handcuffed when he climbed a coconut tree to escape the clutches of law in another case. Who was this murderer and What Was the whole story of the murder?
The date was 2 August 2008 and the place was Siribagilu village in Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka. Here the bodies of a 23-year-old woman named Soumya and her 3-year-old son Jishnu were found inside the house. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and when the investigation was done, it was found that Soumya's gold necklace was missing. Neighbors told the police that they had seen Soumya's brother-in-law Jayesh alias Shakir coming out of the house.
The statements of the neighbours and the situation inside the house indicated that Jayesh had killed his sister-in-law. After the murder, he also stole Soumya's gold necklace. According to the Indian Express report, Jayesh was a member of this family who converted to Islam at the age of 17 and changed his name to Shakir. To catch Jayesh, the police started an investigation and questioned his close friend Sameer.
How did we find clues about Jayesh?
Sameer said that Jayesh had asked him to sell a gold necklace. After this Sameer's mother, Ruqiya Bano helped in selling the necklace, but she did not know that the necklace was stolen. The police recovered the necklace from the goldsmith's shop, but no trace of Jayesh could be found. Gradually four years passed after this incident and when even after many efforts no information was found about him, the case went into cold storage.
Meanwhile, in October 2012, an incident happened in Kerala which gave a new twist to the case. In Kerala's Alappuzha area, two friends were arrested for assaulting a woman. However, one of them escaped by dodging the police and climbing a coconut tree to escape from them.
Jayesh got stuck after climbing a tree
Now the police started trying to get him down from the tree and the incident started being telecast live on the media. When he did not come down even after repeated requests, the police took the help of the fire brigade and caught him. The Karnataka police also got the news of this incident and immediately the double murder case of four years ago flashed in their mind, whose murderer was still absconding.
The police saw the news clips and immediately a team left for Kerala. When he was questioned there, it was confirmed that this person was none other than the same Jayesh who had murdered his sister-in-law and her son and was absconding for the last four years. During interrogation, it was revealed that after the murder, Jayesh alias Shakir had fled to Kerala and started working as a labourer there.
Why did you kill your sister-in-law?
After some time, he fell in love with a Muslim girl, married her and settled here. Later his wife also gave birth to a child. Inspector Suresh Kumar of that time, who exposed this case, said that if the Kerala incident had been only about beating up a woman, the media would probably not have highlighted it. The case was highlighted because he had climbed a coconut tree.
