Major train accident in Jharkhand's Chakradharpur, Mumbai-Howrah Mail derailed, 18 bogies derailed; 2 dead
In Chakradharpur, Jharkhand, the Mumbai Howrah Mail collided with an already derailed goods train. In this accident, 18 coaches of the Howrah Mail also derailed. Dozens of passengers including 18 children are reported to be injured in this accident. At the time of the accident, all the passengers in the train were fast asleep.
Railway accident in Chakradharpur, Jharkhand
The Howrah Mail going from Howrah to Mumbai has derailed in Chakradharpur, Jharkhand. 18 bogies of the train have derailed in this accident. Due to this, two passengers travelling in the train died, while many people were seriously injured. The railway and local police have not yet confirmed any death in this accident. This accident happened between Rajkharsawan and Badabambo on Tuesday morning at around 3:30 am. At the time of the accident, the Howrah Mail was going from Howrah in West Bengal to CSMT Mumbai.
According to railway officials, as soon as this train moved from Rajkharsawan towards Badabambo, it also met with an accident near the already derailed goods train. At the time of the accident, many wagons of the derailed goods train were still on the track. Meanwhile, Howrah-Mumbai Mail coming from behind came on the other track and after getting derailed, its wagons also collided with the wagons of the already derailed goods train. This entire train moved ahead rubbing against the goods train. Due to this, all the coaches of the train have rolled over. DDC, Saraikela Prabhat Kumar said that in view of the seriousness of the accident, rescue work has been speeded up.
Death averted due to driver's presence of mind
According to the railway, a large number of people could have lost their lives in this accident, but the driver of Howrah Mail realized the accident in time. He immediately reduced the speed of the train. Thus, due to the driver's presence of mind, no passenger died. According to railway officials, it was around 3:45 in the morning. During this time, an emergency alert came at Chakradharpur Railway Division. There was a stir in the office due to the news of derailment of the Mail Express train going from Howrah to Mumbai.
Train operations on Howrah-Mumbai track suspended
It was reported that this accident happened near kilometer number 298/21. This accident happened five or ten minutes before this information. ARME train was prepared from Chakradharpur Railway Division Headquarters in a hurry and it was sent to the accident site at 4.15 pm. Relief train staff who reached the spot took out the injured passengers from Howrah Mail and admitted them to the railway hospital. Along with this, due to the accident on both the tracks, the operation of other trains on Howrah Mumbai route has been stopped.
