Manipur Violence: The BJP spokesperson's house in Manipur was attacked for the third time, and set on fire, what did the CM say?
Unknown people vandalized and then set on fire the ancestral house of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit spokesperson Michael Lamjathang in Manipur's Churachandpur district on Saturday. During the attack, a car parked in the compound of the house in the Penial village of Tuibong was also set on fire. The BJP leader's house was also attacked last week. This was the third attack on Michael's house since the Kuki-Meitei violence started in Manipur in 2023.
Police said Churachandpur district deputy commissioner Dharun Kumar S has written a letter to the district superintendent of police (DSP) to investigate and submit a report as soon as possible. Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the third attack on Lamjathang's house.
On the incident of burning the house, Michael Lamzathang said, “Burning my house will not make me give up my Thadou identity. The game of separation started from the ultra-Kuki extremists and supremacists for the pure Thadou who rejected Kuki. Follow me or not. We have started.
N Biren Singh said in a post on Twitter, “The repeated targeting of our people (in this case Thadou), often under the guise of peace rallies, is an alarming trend.” The Thadou are one of the largest sub-tribes of the Kuki community.
The Chief Minister said, "Such acts of provocation will not be tolerated. We will ensure that those responsible are held accountable. Also, action will be taken against the concerned officials who failed to provide adequate security despite prior warning of potential threats."
