The murder of SP MLA Jawahar Yadav alias Jawahar Pandit in Prayagraj is once again in the headlines. The life sentence awarded to the culprit and strongman Udaybhan Karvariya has been pardoned. This incident took place openly and in the middle of a crossroad in Civil Lines.
Udaybhan Karvariya and former MLA's wife Bijma Yadav
The life sentence of former MLA Udaybhan Karvariya, who was convicted of murdering SP MLA Jawahar Yadav alias Jawahar Pandit, who was very close to SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, has been pardoned. After spending 8 years, 3 months and 22 days in jail, Udaybhan Karvariya has come out of jail. With his release from jail, this triple murder case of 13 August 1996 is once again in the headlines. To suppress this murder case, Udaybhan Karvariya later came into politics and also became an MLA, despite this he could not save himself from the life sentence.
In this incident, three people including Samajwadi Party MLA from Jhunsi Jawahar Yadav alias Jawahar Pandit were shot dead in broad daylight by Bahubali Udaybhan Karvariya by firing AK47 with his own hands. In this regard, Jawahar Yadav's brother Sulaki Yadav had filed a case against Udaybhan Karvariya, his two brothers Surajbhan and Kapilmuni Karvariya, uncle Shyam Narayan Karvariya and his friend Ramchandra Tripathi for murder, attempt to murder, inciting riots, use of deadly weapons and under Section 7 of the CLA Act.
The crime was committed openly and publicly
According to the police case diary filed in the court, this incident took place openly and openly at the intersection between Palace Theater and Rajkaran Talkies in Allahabad. It was around 4 pm at that time. Jhunsi MLA Jawahar Yadav had arrived here in his Maruti car. Meanwhile, Udaybhan Karvariya, who was following him in a Maruti van, overtook his car and stopped it and killed him by firing indiscriminately. In this incident, Jawahar Yadav along with his companion Gulab and a passerby Kamal Kumar Dixit died. While Jawahar Yadav's personal gunner Kallan Yadav and Pankaj Srivastava were seriously injured by the bullets.
Jawahar Yadav used to sew sacks
Originally from Jaunpur, Jhunsi MLA Jawahar Yadav came to Allahabad in the 80s in search of livelihood. Here he got the job of sewing sacks. Therefore, he could hardly feed his family. During this time, Jawahar Yadav tried his hand at sand mining and liquor business to earn quick money and became successful. Incidentally, SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav noticed him and he got the SP ticket from Jhunsi assembly seat in the 1993 elections and he was elected. After becoming an MLA, Jawahar Yadav started playing openly in the mining and liquor business.
He was murdered because he felt threatened by the MLA
Since only two gangs were active in this kind of business in Uttar Pradesh. One gang was operating from Gorakhpur, its head was Harishankar Tiwari. The other gang was in Allahabad under Bhukkal Maharaj. However, Bhukkal Maharaj was killed and Atiq Ahmed was trying to take over the business. At the same time, Bhukkal's son Udaybhan Karvariya also started expanding his business. Since Jawahar Yadav had started gaining an upper hand in this business due to political patronage, Udaybhan Karvariya started feeling threatened and decided to eliminate Jawahar Yadav. Thus, Jawahar Yadav was murdered as per a strategy in August 1996.
Be it BJP or BSP, no one opened the file
According to Jawahar Yadav's wife Bijma Yadav, after this incident, whether there was a BJP government or a BSP government in the state, Udaybhan Karvariya had the blessings of all. Even during the President's rule, no police officer dared to open the file of this incident. However, later on the initiative of the then BJP MP from Allahabad, Murli Manohar Joshi, the investigation of the case was handed over to the CB-CID. The CB-CID completed the investigation and filed a charge sheet on 20 January 2004. Despite this, the police did not dare to lay hands on Udaybhan Karvariya.
In the year 2013, the Karvariya brothers surrendered
Then came the year 2012 and the SP government was formed again in the state. At that time, Akhilesh Yadav was the CM. Seeing the opportunity, Bijma Yadav met CM Akhilesh Yadav and pleaded for justice for her husband. After this, the police came into action on the instructions of CM Akhilesh. The police started a siege against the Karvariya brothers and they had to surrender in the year 2013. When the BJP returned to power in UP in the year 2017, Udaybhan's wife Neelam Karvariya was elected MLA from Meja seat on a BJP ticket. After becoming an MLA, Neelam Karvariya put a lot of pressure to get this case closed. Since all the evidence was against the Karvariya brothers, the court rejected all other parties and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
