PM Narendra Modi is addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort for the 11th time today on 15 August. During this, he said that 75000 medical seats will be increased in the country in 5 years. At present, there are more than 1 lakh MBBS seats across the country. At the same time, the total number of medical colleges in the country is 704. These include both government and private medical colleges.

In his address, PM Modi said that it is astonishing to think about the places where students go to study medicine. He said that 25 thousand Indian students go abroad every year to study medicine. After the increase in medical seats, students will be able to study well in their own country. Students will not have to go abroad to study MBBS.

How many MBBS seats are there now?

There are a total of 55,648 MBBS seats in government medical colleges and 50,685 MBBS seats in private colleges. On which admission is to be done this time. The registration process for NEET UG 2024 counseling round 1 has started from August 14, which will run till August 20. The result of seat allocation for the first round will be released on August 23. NEET UG counseling will be conducted in a total of four rounds.

When was the NEET UG exam held?

This year, the National Examination Agency conducted the NEET UG exam on May 5 in pen-paper mode. The result was declared on June 4. A total of 67 students topped, which was controversial. Students accused the NTA of paper leak and rigging in the exam and the matter went to the Supreme Court. On the court's order, the NTA released the revised result and merit list of NEET UG on July 26, in which 17 students topped.

Around 24 lakh students from across the country had registered to appear in the exam, while around 23 lakh students appeared in the exam. Around 13 lakh students have passed the exam. These students will be allotted seats in medical colleges through counselling on the basis of their marks in the NEET exam.
