Good News for Government Employees!

The Sikkim government has announced a 3% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for its state employees and pensioners. This move, which comes ahead of Chaitra Navratri and Eid, is set to benefit thousands of government workers across the state.

With this latest hike, the DA/DR has been revised from 50% to 53%, and the new rates will be implemented retrospectively from July 1, 2024. Employees can expect to receive arrears for the period from July 2024 to February 2025 along with their upcoming salaries.

Official Announcement by the Finance Department

According to a circular issued by the Controller of Accounts-cum-Secretary, Finance Department, the government has approved this increase to support employees amidst rising inflation. The revised DA will apply to those receiving salaries under the revised basic pay structure.

For pensioners under the old pay structure, the DR has been increased from 239% to 246%, also effective from July 1, 2024.

DA Hike in Context

This is the second DA increment in less than a year. Earlier, in October 2024, the Sikkim government had raised the DA by 4%, increasing it from 46% to 50%. That revision was applicable to employees under the regular pay scale, contract workers, and workload-based establishments.

When Will Employees Receive the Revised Salary?

With the new announcement, the revised salaries along with the arrears will be credited to employees’ bank accounts starting from April 2025. This increase is expected to provide financial relief and boost the purchasing power of government employees and pensioners.

State Government’s Commitment to Employees

By implementing this DA hike, the Prem Singh Tamang-led Sikkim government continues to show its commitment to the welfare of its employees and pensioners. The decision aligns with efforts to ensure that government workers are compensated fairly in light of increasing living costs.

What’s Next?

With inflation continuing to impact daily expenses, government employees across various states are hopeful for similar relief measures. The Central Government is also expected to announce a DA hike soon, which could further benefit public sector employees nationwide.
