Toll Charges Increase on NH-9, Meerut Expressway, and Eastern Peripheral Expressway: Here’s the Latest Update

As the new financial year approaches, commuters traveling on NH-9, the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway will have to shell out more for toll charges. Starting from midnight on March 31, 2025, the revised toll rates will come into effect, making travel costlier for all vehicle categories. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has officially announced these changes, marking yet another toll hike following a similar revision in June 2024.
How Much More Will You Pay?
The toll increase will impact various routes, affecting daily commuters and transporters alike. Here’s a breakdown of the latest toll rates:
-
Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut (Car/Jeep): The one-way toll has increased from Rs 165 to Rs 170.
-
Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) and Buses: The revised one-way toll is now Rs 275.
-
Trucks: The new one-way toll stands at Rs 580.
At the Chhijarsi toll plaza on NH-9:
-
Cars/Jeeps: Increased from Rs 170 to Rs 175.
-
LCVs: New toll set at Rs 280.
-
Buses and Trucks: Increased to Rs 590.
Higher Toll Charges Across All Vehicle Categories
Not only have toll rates gone up for regular commuters, but all categories of vehicles using the Eastern Peripheral Expressway will also have to pay higher charges. This means that anyone traveling on the major expressways and highways around Delhi will now have to budget extra for toll expenses.
NHAI’s Official Announcement
According to NHAI’s notification, vehicles carrying goods and having more than seven axles will experience the highest increase, with toll rates surging by up to Rs 590. Other vehicle categories have also seen significant increases.
For instance, the toll for cars and jeeps at the Chhijarsi toll plaza has gone up by Rs 5. Meanwhile, those traveling from Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut will now pay Rs 170 for a one-way journey, up from the previous Rs 165. Similarly, the toll from Ghaziabad to Meerut has increased to Rs 75, up from Rs 70.
Updated Toll Rates on Key Routes
Here’s how much travelers will now have to pay for one-way and round-trip tolls:
-
Indirapuram to Meerut: Rs 115 (one-way), Rs 175 (round-trip)
-
Dundahaeda to Meerut: Rs 90 (one-way), Rs 140 (round-trip)
-
Dasna to Meerut: Rs 75 (one-way), Rs 115 (round-trip)
-
Dasna to Meerut (LCVs): Rs 125 (one-way), Rs 185 (round-trip)
-
Rasulpur Sikrod to Meerut: Rs 55 (one-way), Rs 85 (round-trip)
Why This Matters
A significant number of vehicles pass through these expressways daily, making these toll hikes a crucial concern for regular commuters, logistics companies, and transporters. The NH-9 toll plaza at Chhijarsi in Hapur district is a key junction for vehicles traveling to Lucknow, Moradabad, Bareilly, Rampur, Hapur, and Gajraula from Ghaziabad. Additionally, the Delhi-Meerut Expressway serves as a primary route for travelers heading to Meerut and Dehradun from Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad.
With these new toll rates coming into effect, commuters should plan their budgets accordingly to accommodate the increased costs. If you frequently travel on these highways, be prepared to pay a bit more starting April 1, 2025.
