A heart-wrenching case of police brutality has emerged from Ubhai village, Basti district, where a 17-year-old boy, Aadarsh Upadhyay, allegedly died due to third-degree torture in police custody. His grieving mother, clinging to his lifeless body, kept hoping he would wake up, unaware that her son had been silenced forever.

How It Started: A Dispute Over Tobacco Turned Deadly

The tragedy began with a petty dispute. Aadarsh, a simple village boy who helped his family and grazed cows, allegedly asked a wealthy villager for tobacco. Offended, the man called the police, leading to Aadarsh’s detainment and brutal beating at the Dubaulia police station.

Tortured All Night, Beaten Again in the Morning

According to family members, police subjected Aadarsh to relentless third-degree torture overnight. When his health deteriorated, the police demanded ₹5,000 for his release. Being a poor family, they couldn’t arrange the money. The torture continued into the morning, leading to severe internal injuries.

Seeing Aadarsh’s worsening condition, the police dumped him at his house and left. Blood was coming from his mouth, and his condition was critical. His family rushed him to CHC Haraiya, but doctors referred him to the district hospital. Tragically, he passed away on the way.

Family’s Shocking Allegations

Aadarsh’s mother made grave accusations against the police:

  • Demanded ₹5,000 for release

  • Forced her younger son to sign an unknown paper

  • Ignored her pleas when Aadarsh was dying

Villagers Protest, Demand Justice

The brutal death of Aadarsh sparked outrage. Family members and villagers protested, refusing to perform last rites until action was taken. Authorities, including the CO City, assured strict action against guilty police personnel.

This shocking case of custodial death has once again raised serious questions about police accountability and brutality in India. The family demands justice, and the public waits to see whether the system will hold the culprits responsible.
