Why did the Karnataka government shelve the bill for reservation in private jobs?
Suvendu Adhikari and Sukanta Majumdar: In Bengal BJP too, the senior leaders seem to be having different tunes. No one seems to be taking responsibility for the defeat in the Lok Sabha and the subsequent by-elections.
Bengal BJP Poor Performance: This week, from Lucknow to Delhi, the sound of change is being heard in UP BJP everywhere, but away from all this, in Bengal too, rebellious voices are being raised within the party. In the Lok Sabha elections, BJP's seats in Bengal decreased from 18 to 12. The seats of the three assembly by-elections held last week also went to the account of CM Mamata Banerjee's ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). Therefore, the morale of the workers in the Bengal BJP unit has weakened and there is a demand for accountability for the poor performance and change in the organization. That is, in simple words, questions are being raised somewhere on the leadership of state BJP president Sukant Majumdar and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Shubhendu Adhikari.
After the recent election results, a two-day session of the BJP state executive is being organized from July 17 for brainstorming. Such a rebellious attitude was seen on its first day. While the brainstorming session of the state BJP was in the Science City auditorium of Kolkata, a group of party workers staged a sit-in outside the state (BJP) headquarters in central Kolkata. It demanded action against those state leaders whom they held responsible for the poor performance in the elections.
Senior BJP leader and MP Saumitra Khan, while talking to reporters, stressed the need for leadership change in the state organization. He said, "After our disappointing performance, there is a need for more accountability and change in the state organization. This change is necessary because the state's people have given us a message."
Echoing Khan's sentiments, former BJP MP Arjun Singh, who lost the Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat, also acknowledged shortcomings. "We must acknowledge the party's challenges, be they organizational or otherwise, and address them swiftly ahead of the 2026 assembly elections," he said.
Another senior BJP leader, who did not wish to be named, said there was an urgent need for radical changes in the state unit after the disappointing election results. "If we want to make our presence felt in the 2026 assembly elections, we have to organize ourselves as soon as possible. Changes in the state unit are the need of the hour. Those who have taken decisions on behalf of the state unit should accept responsibility and step down," the leader said.
Organizational skills don't play much of a role: Sukanta Majumdar.
Addressing the opening session of the meeting, state BJP chief and Union minister Sukanta Majumdar said, "The results of the Lok Sabha elections cannot be an indicator of the party's prospects in the state." He said, "We will discuss the future strategy. It is true that our (Lok Sabha) seat count has come down from 18 to 12. We need to find out what did not work. We should work hard and fight against the misrule of the Trinamool Congress."
Later, he told reporters that organizational skills do not play much of a role in winning elections. He said, "When a party wins, everyone gives credit to organizational strength and if it loses, everyone blames organizational strength. This is natural. However, according to political observers, the role of organizational structure in winning elections is only 10-25 percent."
I do not look after the functioning of the organization: Shubhendu Adhikari.
In the meeting, the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly Shubhendu Adhikari clarified, "I do not look after the functioning of the organization." He said, "I am the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and there is no such instance where I have commented against the party. Secondly, I am not responsible in any way for the organizational work of the state unit.
However, on this Sukanta Majumdar says that Subhendu Adhikari was a prominent member of the core committee.
It can be understood from these statements that while on
