Hours after former Pakistan Prime Minister and Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was granted bail in the Toshakhana case, Rawalpindi police arrested him again in a new case at New Town Police Station. His bail plea in the Toshakhana case was accepted by the Islamabad High Court on Wednesday. The Islamabad High Court had ordered him to deposit a bond of 10 lakh Pakistani rupees as bail. Imran has been lodged in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi for 474 days in different cases.

Late on Wednesday night, police said that a team of Rawalpindi police officers led by SSP Investigation reached Adiala Jail and formally "arrested" the former prime minister. He said that the police team would try to get Imran's physical remand from the court.

In which case was Imran arrested?

A report was filed against Imran at the New Town Police Station in connection with the PTI protest on September 27. Imran was booked under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) and relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). Imran was booked for inciting arson and causing damage to property. Along with the former prime minister, a case has been filed against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and PTI leaders including Seemabia Tahir, Amir Mugar, and Alia Hamza in this case.

There are many serious charges against Imran and other PTI leaders in the case, including terrorism, attempt to murder, vandalism, destruction of public and state property, obstruction in government work. The FIR states that during the protest, PTI leaders and workers raised anti-government slogans, threw stones at the police, and attacked them with iron rods. According to the FIR, five suspects in this case - Khalil, Imran, Sadaqat, Yasin, and Tahir were arrested from the spot.

Imran's wife has already got bail.

Imran and his wife Bushra Bibi were arrested on 13 July in the Toshakhana case. However, on 24 October last month, Bushra Bibi got bail from the Islamabad High Court. Last week on Thursday, a hearing was held in a Pakistani court to acquit Imran and Bushra in the Toshakhana case, however, the court rejected this petition.

Accused of selling gifts received from abroad

A case is going on against former PM Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case. It is alleged that the Toshakhana scam took place during the period from 2018 to 2022 when Imran was the Prime Minister of the country. Imran Khan is accused of selling gifts worth more than Rs 140 million received from abroad as Prime Minister, although Imran had completely denied these allegations against him.

When Imran Khan became the Prime Minister, he made several foreign visits. During this time, he received many valuable gifts. These included several expensive watches, a precious pen, cufflinks, and a ring. Imran is accused of buying these gifts for Rs 2.15 crore and then later selling them for more than Rs 5 crore.
