Has Ukraine crossed the line in its quest for revenge against Putin? Zelensky may face new trouble!
President Zelensky's troubles may increase in the Russia-Ukraine war. Russia had accused Ukraine of trying to attack the nuclear power plant located in Kursk. Russia sent this information to the IAEA, the agency that promotes the peaceful use of nuclear energy. Today, the agency's chief Rafael Grossi has reached Kursk to inspect this nuclear plant.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had alleged in a meeting with officials on August 22 that the Ukrainian army had tried to target the nuclear plant after intruding into Kursk. According to media reports, Ukraine wanted to capture this nuclear plant and bring Russia to the negotiating table on its terms, but its planning could not succeed. However, Ukraine has not yet given any clarification on these allegations.
IAEA concerned about nuclear plant
Before arriving in Russia, the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency had said that it would be possible to check and confirm the safety of the nuclear plant only after reaching the spot. Which comes under the State Nuclear Corporation of Russia. Grossi said that the safety of the nuclear power plant cannot be endangered at any cost, he said that the biggest concern of the IAEA is to ensure the safety of the nuclear plant.
Ukraine intruded on 6 August
In fact, on August 6, the Ukrainian army suddenly intruded into the Russian border. The Ukrainian army has claimed to have captured several villages in the Kursk region and taken hundreds of Russians hostage. According to media reports, this nuclear plant is located 40 kilometers away from the areas where the Ukrainian army is conducting military operations in Kursk. Russia had alleged that Ukrainian drones have been seen at a distance of about 100 meters from the Kursk plant. To investigate this, the head of the IAEA has reached Kursk today.
Kursk's 2 nuclear reactors are active
Let us tell you that this nuclear plant in Kursk is from the Soviet era. Out of these, 2 have been shut down while number 3 and number 4 are operational. On August 25, reactor number 4 was disconnected for 59 days so that its cooling system could be repaired.
There has been a threat of attack on nuclear plants since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war. The IAEA has constantly warned both sides about this danger. If any nuclear plant is attacked, it can lead to a dangerous reaction which will be very difficult to control in time.
Occupation in Kursk is not the aim - Ukraine
On the other hand, Ukraine has said that it is not running this operation with the aim of occupation of Kursk. Ukraine says that it wants to persuade Russia for peace talks and its aim is not to occupy Russian territories. However, in a statement issued by the Kremlin on Monday itself, it was said that the time for talks with Ukraine is over.
