America's newly elected President Donald Trump will take power in January next year. Before taking the chair of the President, Trump is preparing a team for his second term. He is making appointments one by one. He has also included Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswami in his team. They have been given the responsibility of a ministry which is completely new. Actually, Trump has created a ministry named Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This is a ministry whose functioning is similar to the ideas of PM Modi. He has done some similar work in his government in the last 10 years.

What will be the work of Trump's new ministry?

The name of Trump's new ministry is Department of Government Efficiency. Its job is to make the US government efficient in the next 2 years. It is to free it from the clutches of bureaucracy. The ministry's job will be to cut down government expenditure, abolish unnecessary laws and reorganize government agencies.

The task of reducing the size of the government and making it more effective has also been given. This ministry will work till the 250th anniversary of America's independence on 4 July 2026. This is Trump's ambitious project. He calls it the Manhattan Project. This is the same project under which American researchers tried to make the atom bomb during the Second World War.

Similar steps were taken in India as well

From the Indian perspective, it can be called the Ministry of Good Governance. Although there is no separate ministry like this in India, many steps have been taken in the last 10 years which include eliminating ineffective and unnecessary laws, simplifying rules and promoting ease of doing business.

Efforts were made to reduce government interference. Mutual coordination among ministries was increased. Work was done on Minimum Government, Maximum Governance. Professionals were recruited in the government.

What was the Manhattan Project?

The Manhattan Project, led by the US in collaboration with Britain and Canada, was a program launched during World War II to build the first atomic bomb. Thousands of scientists, including J. Robert Oppenheimer, were part of the Manhattan Project. Apart from Oppenheimer, the project brought together some of the best scientists in the world, including Albert Einstein, Enrico Fermi and Niels Bohr. It was the Manhattan Project that led to the creation of two atomic bombs, which were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945, killing thousands of people.

Major General Leslie Groves of the US Army Corps of Engineers led the project from 1942 to 1946. Oppenheimer was the director of the Los Alamos Lab which designed the bombs. The project was designed in the Manhattan district of New York and hence it was given this name. It is said that the project employed about 130,000 people at one time. Its cost at that time was about $2 billion.
