Kim Jong Un’s Alliance with Putin Turns Costly: 4,000 North Korean Soldiers Killed, 4 Tanks Destroyed

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has faced heavy losses in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Reports suggest that 4,000 North Korean soldiers have been killed, and four of North Korea’s advanced tanks have been destroyed by Ukrainian forces.
North Korea’s Support for Russia
As Russia struggled on the battlefield in 2024, Kim Jong Un sent 25,000 soldiers and advanced M-series tanks to assist Russian forces. These tanks, known for their strength in past conflicts, were expected to bolster Russia’s offensive. Additionally, North Korea provided medical treatment to wounded Russian soldiers, allowing them to recover and return to the battlefield rather than going home.
Heavy Losses for North Korea
According to reports from Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, most of the 4,000 casualties were young soldiers under the age of 20. Ukraine’s Kiev Post also reported that North Korea’s M-Kherson tank was recently destroyed by a Ukrainian drone. This comes after another North Korean M-series tank was also taken down by Ukraine’s military.
Russia and North Korea Remain Silent
So far, neither Russia nor North Korea has officially commented on these losses. Meanwhile, Russia’s overall casualties in the three-year war are estimated at 900,000 soldiers, though Ukraine’s total losses remain unknown.
Kim Jong Un’s decision to align with Vladimir Putin appears to have come at a significant cost, as North Korea faces heavy casualties and equipment losses in a war that continues to escalate.
