The whole of Asia is troubled by China's actions, and now Philippines has declared itself the messenger of unrest
Not only India but its other neighbors are also troubled by China. Be it Ladakh or Arunachal Pradesh, China keeps trying to enter India's territory. China also keeps asserting its authority in the countries that share its maritime border with China. Now the Philippines has also called China the biggest threat to the peace of South East Asia.
China has intensified its intrusions in the South China Sea in the last few days. Countries like Taiwan and the Philippines are upset with the increasing interference of the Chinese army in the South China Sea. This statement from the Philippines came at a time when tensions between Manila and Beijing have increased over the rocks and water in the South China Sea.
What is the whole controversy?
Philippines Defense Chief Gilbert Teodoro said on Tuesday that China is the biggest reason for disturbing the peace in Southeast Asia. His statement came after China's move, in which the Chinese Navy took action against two Philippines Coast Guard ships near Sabina Shoal in the Spratly Islands. The Philippines says that it had sent two ships to the reef to deliver food items to one of its ships, which were stopped by the Chinese Coast Guard.
Philippine Coast Guard spokesman Commodore J. Tarriella told AFP on Monday that the deployment of a large number of Chinese navy ships and rough sea conditions forced them to abandon their mission.
Claim to the entire South China Sea
Beijing claims almost the entire sea, claims by other countries including the Philippines that China has rejected. According to an international decision, China's claim is wrong. China's claims also include rocks and waters within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone, which extends about 370 km from the country's coast. Speaking to reporters, Gilbert Teodoro said, "We need to raise our voice together against China. We are fighting against a more powerful adversary.
China has recently increased the deployment of its navy in this sea area and has also built artificial islands. Anti-China elements are claiming that these islands have been built for military use.
Collision taking place in Sabina Shoal
There have been several clashes around Sabina Shoal in recent times. Sabina Shoal is 140 km west of the Philippines island of Palawan and about 1,200 km from China's nearest Hainan Island. In recent months, both sides have deployed coast guard and military ships on the shoal.
Manila fears that Beijing is going to build an artificial island in this area. Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos has been opposing China's entry into the disputed area. Due to this, there has been a rift in the relations between the two countries in recent times.
