There are still about two months left for the swearing-in ceremony in America, but Donald Trump has started appointing his people for his cabinet and members of the second term. He is selecting his cabinet very fast. Newly elected President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he is appointing Linda McMahon for the post of Education Secretary, Linda McMahon is a billionaire and professional wrestler.

McMahon has been a big donor to the Republican Party and has little experience in departments like education. McMahon's nomination has surprised many education experts. The Los Angeles Times, citing a source, reported that McMahon was not on the shortlist of education secretary candidates in the Trump Cabinet and many had expected that prominent opponents of diversity and equality programs would be chosen for this post, including the state presidents of Oklahoma and Louisiana.

Trump expressed confidence

Trump praised McMahon's work in his statement, saying she would work for parental rights, including allowing parents to use tax money to send their children to any school they choose, whether public or private.

He further said that McMahon would work towards giving more power to the states in matters of education, and not promote interference by the federal government. This could be a step towards fulfilling one of her old promises, in which she had talked about abolishing the federal Department of Education.

Who is Linda McMahon?

76-year-old Linda McMahon is the wife of WWE founder Vince McMahon. McMahon led the Small Business Department during Trump's initial tenure from 2017 to 2019 and contested twice as a Republican for the US Senate in Connecticut, but lost. McMahon has served on the Connecticut Board of Education for a year starting in 2009 and spent several years on the board of trustees of Sacred Heart University in Connecticut.

He is seen as a relatively unknown figure in the education world, though he has expressed support for charter schools and school choice.
